Golden Eagles Sweep Friday Matchups

RIVERSIDE - La Sierra Athletics outshines opponents in three Golden Eagle wins on Friday. Women's Soccer set the stage for an early morning win over Benedictine University Mesa, 2-1. Men's Soccer offered a thrilling midday victory of Benedictine University Mesa, 3-2. Women's Volleyball closed out the day with a quick 3-0 swap of West Coast Baptist College.

Women's Soccer secured their first win of the season with goals from Monserrath Arellano-Ayala assisted by Aryanna Ulloa and Samantha Torres. Torres' goal would ultimately become the game winner. Golden Eagles goalie, Ali Razon, saved a total of four goals to help solidify the win. With a slow start to the game, both sides picked it up in the second half scoring all three goals. Women's Soccer out shot their opponents 11 to 8 with shots coming from Jordan Hood, Alyssa Rangel, Tyariz Hernandez, Leslie Lopez, Elaina Gonzalez, Isabel Iniguez, Jaquelin Adame, Tamara Gastelum, Gianna Mejia, and the two Golden Eagle goal scorers. The Golden Eagles continue to apply pressure to their opponents this season and look to add to their win column.

Men's Soccer picked up their second win of the year with goals from Robert Carroll assisted by Sean Palena, Damian Romero assisted by Luke Poxon and Rafael Rivera, and the game winner by Rivera. At the half, the Golden Eagles led 1-0. After an early two goals in the second half from La Sierra, the team had a large 3-0 lead. Benedictine Mesa answered back with back to back goals in the 78th and 79th minutes to apply pressure. In the final 10 minutes, each team was able to send off two more shots apiece. Intensity of play remained high in the second half with 4 Red Hawk yellow cards and 2 Golden Eagle yellow cards. Men's soccer out shot their opponents 15 to 10 and had four saves on goal from Adrian Alvarez. The Golden Eagles continue to grow as a team on the field and in the win column.

Women's Volleyball dominated against West Coast Baptist with set scores of 25-7, 25-12, 25-7. The Golden Eagles totaled 37 kills, 35 assists, 13 service aces, 63 digs, 2 block solos, and 12 block assists. Ariana Pedroza led the match in kills with 6. Lanah Bergen, Torri Lambert, and Sweetheart Salevao picked up 5 kills each, and Sakura Pangelinan added 4 kills. Lindsay Delgadillo led the match with 13 assists, followed by Zoey Sanchez with 7, and Sarah Patin and Sophia Cardenas with 5 apiece. Two Golden Eagles picked up three service aces, Sophia Avery and Patin, and Alex Colorado added two. Kiana Merrill and Ava Himstreet had 11 digs respectively, and Pangelinan came out with 10. Lambert was the sole Golden Eagle with the two solo blocks. She aided with two block assists along with Bergens 3, Nyla Carrs', Abigail Hines' and Julissa Rodiguez 2, and Talley Blackwell with one. With their first win of the season in the books, Women's Volleyball looks to open up their season.

Women's and Men's soccer are back Monday, September 2 at 5:00 and 7:30 pm for home games against Stanton University. Women's Volleyball will play home Friday, September 6 at 12:00 pm against Arizona Christian University.
