Coach Heather Frisone is a dedicated coach and educator with extensive first-hand experience in competitive running, teaching, and coaching. She has been involved in the sport for over 45 years, competing across youth club, high school, NCAA Division I, post-collegiate professional, and masters (40+) levels.
Coach Frisone began her running career at age 6 with Fullerton’s Team Running Etc., later joining the Southern California Roadrunners. As a high school athlete, she earned a CIF Track Championship title in the 1600 meters and still holds the Valencia High School (Placentia) records in both the 1600 and 3200 meters.
She continued her academic and athletic career at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF), where she was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in recognition of her achievements in athletics, academics, and community service. While at CSUF, she became a Big West Conference Champion in the 3,000, 5,000, and 10,000 meters—making history as the only athlete to win all three events in the same meet. Coach Frisone earned NCAA Division I All-American honors in both Track & Field and Cross Country. In 1995, she was named the NCAA Woman of the Year for California and was a Top 10 National Finalist. Post-collegiately, she qualified for and competed in the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in both 2004 and 2008.
In her second year of teaching at Narbonne High School, Coach Frisone served as Co-Head Track and Field Coach alongside her husband, Steve. After relocating, the two continued to teach, race competitively, raise a family, and volunteer with local high school cross country teams as their schedules allowed.
For the past 27 years, Coach Frisone has been a teacher and AVID Program Coordinator at Corona High School, where she has also taught Health and Language Arts. From 2018 to 2022, she and her husband served as Co-Head Coaches for both Cross Country and Distance Track at Canyon High School. In her final year, she led the program as Head Track Coach.
Coach Frisone is passionate about the human side of sport and leverages her background as a high-performing athlete, educator, and advocate for holistic health to support the overall well-being of her student-athletes. Her leadership as a Program Coordinator also brings valuable expertise in recruitment, organization, and team management.
