Gabe Gamboa joined the La Sierra University Athletic Department in 2010 as the Head Baseball Coach, with a wealth of knowledge and experience.
Gamboa and his coaching staff have been central in the development of several student-athletes who went on to receive Cal Pac honors, including the prestigious “All America Team” award given to Matt Majher in 2018 (first player in Golden Eagle History). Majher also received the coveted, “Player of the Year” award that same year, along with “All Conference” accolades in both 2017 and 2018, while also leading the Cal Pac Conference in homeruns (17).
Majher isn’t the only Golden Eagle Gamboa has leading Cal Pac individual season stats, with players in the top ten in Batting Average (Matt Zurita, 2016), Slugging Percentage (Matt Zurita, 2016), Triples (Johnny Salinas, 2016 and Andrew Lundstrom, 2017, 2019), Stolen Bases (Lundstrom, 2017), On Base Percentage (Lundstrom, 2017) and Pitching (Julian Viscaro, 2017). Gamboa also celebrated “Golden Glove” awards for Catcher, Justin Hinojosa (2018), First Baseman, David Roman (2018) and Second Baseman, Kash Mattson (2019), as well as six “All Conference Team” awards.
Gamboa’s coaching repertoire is extensive, including currently serving in player development and instruction with Amateur Baseball Development and the Mark Cresse School of Baseball. Gamboa also had stints with both the California Instructional Baseball Academy and Adrenaline Baseball Academy.
Gamboa is homegrown here in Riverside, playing baseball for Riverside Sport Hall of Fame Coach Gary Rungo of Arlington High School. Gamboa took his talents to the 1996 Jr. Pan American Games, competing with Team USA in Mexico City, Mexico. Thereafter, he played for the Wolverine’s at San Bernardino Valley College (2000-2001). Along the way, Gamboa has been mentored by Mike Stubbins, former catcher with the Los Angels Dodgers Organization.
Gamboa is also very active in the community, along with his team, spending time with and bringing Christmas presents to patients at Loma Linda University Health-Children’s Oncology Ward. He has also volunteered his time coaching at Arlington High School (2002-2004), Ramona High School (2005) and most recently La Sierra Academy (2009). Gamboa resides in the Inland Empire with his spouse and two children.
