Riverside, CA - Looking
to rebound from last night's loss, the Golden Eagles got off to a quick start,
winning the first game 25-5 and eventually taking the match 3-0 (25-5, 25-23,
25-20). Playing the second match of a
back-to-back tonight, La Sierra was able to push their record to 5-2.
In Game 1, the Golden Eagles were able to capitalize on 10
straight points on the serve of Lupe Garcia, cruising to a 1-0 lead. Game 2 was a back and forth battle, with the
Pioneers taking the early lead, prior to La Sierra fighting their way
back. The Pioneers held a slim lead,
22-20, late in the game, but once again it was the Golden Eagles who finished
the game on a 5-1 run to snatch Game 2.
The Golden Eagles grabbed the early lead in Game 3 on their road to
closing out the match in three straight games.
Leading the way for La Sierra was Lina Semaia who finished
with 11 kills and three blocks. Senior
outside hitter Shelby Madigan added 11 kills and six digs. Garcia pitched in with nine digs, seven
kills, four aces and one block. Ashley
Sanchez also contributed six kills and five blocks. Junior setter Colleen Stafford finished with
a game-high 27 assists to along with two blocks.
For the Pioneers, it was Calai Brown and Jenna Glantz, who
finished with a total of six kills each.
Sarah Cusick led the Pioneers in digs with nine, with Glantz adding
seven digs of her own. Setter Lauren
Wooley had 16 assists on the night. The
Pioneers fall to 1-3 with the loss.
After starting the 2012 season with six of their first seven
matches being played at home, the Golden Eagles will spend most of next month
on the road. They will travel to the
University of Redlands this coming Friday, before heading east for a tournament
in Las Vegas this coming weekend. The
Golden Eagles next home match will not take place until September 20, when they
play host to the University of Redlands.
