Riverside, CA - The
women's volleyball team entered tonight's match with the University of Redlands
looking to extend their current win streak to five. On the other side of the net, Redlands was
attempting to put an end to a three-match losing streak. The Bulldogs jumped out to the early lead, by
taking Game 1, before the Golden Eagles stormed back to win Games 2 and 3. But La Sierra was unable to finish off the
Bulldogs who rallied for the 3-2 victory, 25-22, 12-25, 13-25, 25-15, 15-11.
It was another slow start for the Golden Eagles, who lost a
back and forth Game 1. In the next two
games, La Sierra was clicking on all cylinders; scoring on their serves,
controlling play at the net, and keeping the Bulldogs on their heels by with an
attack percentage of .542 in Game 2.
But the Bulldogs would not be outdone, using timely hitting
and solid defense to steal the final two games for the victory. When the Golden Eagles jumped out to the
early lead in Game 5, the Bulldogs capitalized on a timely run to take the lead
and the match.
Shelby Madigan led the Golden Eagles with 16 kills and 15
digs. Lina Semaia added 12 kills and
Lupe Garcia had nine kills and eight digs.
Setter Colleen Stafford finished with 26 assists and 12 digs.
The Golden Eagles fall to 14-7 on the season. Next in line is a much-anticipated re-match
with CSU San Marcos. La Sierra defeated
San Marcos, in five games, in the season-opening La Sierra University
Volleyball Tournament. San Marcos
currently ranked No. 9 in the nation with a 13-7 record. The Golden Eagles return home on October 9
when they play host to Westmont College.
