Santa Clarita, CA - The
Golden Eagles men's soccer team traveled to The Master's College this
afternoon, for a non-conference match-up with the Mustangs. La Sierra entered the match with an even
record of 4-4, while the Mustangs were looking to push their record to an even
4-4. The two teams played a relatively
even match for the first 70 minutes, at which point the Mustangs broke it open
by scoring three goals in the final 20 minutes, on their way to a 4-0 victory
over the Golden Eagles.
The Mustangs took a 1-0 lead into the half, on a goal by
Austin Michelson, assisted by Ryan Dolan, in the 31st minute. In the latter part of the second half, the
Mustangs broke the match open by scoring three goals in the 70th, 75th,
and 87th minutes. The first
goal, of the three, was an unassisted goal by Taylor Shahi, followed five
minutes later by Peter Martin who found the back of the net, assisted by Austin
Rochow and Michelson. Rochow closed out
the scoring on a goal from Michelson and Kevin Scheunemann.
La Sierra finished the match with 10 total shots, yet only
three shots on goal. The Mustangs had 14
total shots, six shots on goal (four of which resulted in goals), on five total
assists.
The Golden Eagles will have to put this latest loss behind
them quickly, as they will play host to a tough Marymount College squad, on
Sunday evening. Marymount will enter the
match with a 4-3-1 record. In two
matches between the two teams last season, the Golden Eagles were 0-1-1 against
the Mariners. Marymount is in their
first season as a member of the California Pacific Conference. Sunday's match is scheduled for a 6pm
start.
