Aliso Viejo, Calif. - A late goal by Soka University was enough to defeat the Golden Eagles, 1-0, in today's Cal Pac match in Aliso Viejo, Calif. The loss drops La Sierra to 3-4 in the Cal Pac standings (4-9 overall).
Neither team was willing to give an inch, as the two teams played to a scoreless tie after 45 minutes of play.
La Sierra held 9-3 advantage, in total shots, after the first half of play. The defensive battle continued into the second half, until Bryce Arenson scored the only goal (82nd minute) of the match, on assists from Edgar Cruz and Shunichi Muto.
Despite the goal, it was the Golden Eagles who held a 17-7 advantage in total shots by the time the final whistle sounded. Unfortunately for La Sierra, it was Soka University who was able to capitalize on one of their three shots on goal.
Of the 17 total shots, the Golden Eagles also finished with three shots on goal, led by Brandon Chavez who finished with eight total shots and two shots on goal.
The men's soccer team will host Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.) this coming Friday afternoon, at 2pm, in another Cal Pac South Division match. Embry Riddle is currently 4-2 in Cal Pac play (7-4 overall).
With only four regular season matches remaining, Friday's match is the first of three straight home matches for La Sierra.
