Merced, Calif. - The Golden Eagles women's volleyball team rebounded from Friday's loss at Menlo, to defeat the University of California – Merced in straight sets, 25-23, 25-21, 25-21, last night.
One day after dropping a lopsided match against the Oaks, the Golden Eagles took one more step towards securing the top see in the upcoming Cal Pac Women's Volleyball Championship.
All three sets were tightly contested, with the Golden Eagles coming out on top in all three.
Robyn Miller had a stellar performance with 21 kills on 41 attempts and only five errors, for a hitting percentage of .390. She also added 12 digs and two block assists. Here 21 kills and 12 digs were both match-highs.
Lina Semaia added 17 kills on 39 attempts, with six errors (.282). Chantal Washington added 11 digs, while Angie Gonzalez led the offense with 39 assists.
The Golden Eagles finished with 20 more kills (45-25) in the match. They also dominated in hitting percentage, tallying an attack percentage of .210, compared to only .095 for the Bobcats.
But La Sierra did leave the door open by committing a total of 13 service errors compared to only three for Merced.
The women's volleyball team improves to 7-2 in Cal Pac play (8-16 overall). With a win in their final regular season match, next Saturday versus Embry-Riddle University (Ariz.), they will clinch the top seed in the conference tournament for the second year in a row.
The Cal Pac Women's Volleyball Tournament will be hosted at La Sierra University on November 13 and 15. The top four teams in the final standings will square off for the conference championship and a chance to represent the Cal Pac in the NAIA National Tournament. La Sierra University and Menlo College have both clinched berths into the tournament, while Pacific Union College, UC Merced, and Embry Riddle battle for the final two spots.
