Oceanside, Calif. - The women's basketball team dropped to 0-2 on the young season, after a 65-56 loss at California State University-San Marcos.
La Sierra jumped out to the early 12-6 lead five minutes into the game, but the Cougars quickly answered with a 10-0, to take a 16-12 lead.
With seven minutes remaining in the first half, the Cougars extended their lead to 22-14, but the Golden Eagles were able to cut into the lead to trail by only two points (28-26) at the half.
But a 12-2 run by the Cougars to start the second half, proved to be the difference in the game, as the Golden Eagles were unable to overcome the deficit.
With 5:08 remaining the Cougars led by as many as 18 points (60-42). Showing no quit, the Golden Eagles fought until the end and finished the game with a 14-5 run.
Tina Fantroy led the way with a game-high 22 points, including 4-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc. Faith Fantroy pitched in 13 points seven rebounds, a game-high six assists, along with two steals.
Destiny Melton led the team with eight rebounds to go along with four points, while Kristin Brummett finished with five points and five rebounds.
The Cougars had four players who scored in double figures, led by Heather Thompson who scored 14 points.
The Golden Eagles will be out of action for a week, prior to starting a tough stretch that includes four games in six days, starting with next Saturday night's game at San Diego Christian.
