Riverside, Calif. - In search of their fourth straight win, the women's basketball team played host to #14 The Master's College in a non-conference match-up, the Golden Eagles were outmatched in an 85-54 loss.
The Mustangs jumped out of the gates blazing hot, connecting five straight 3-point shots vaulting them to a 15-4 lead just four minutes into the game. The Golden Eagles regrouped and played the Mustangs relatively even for the remainder of the first half.
The Mustangs did extend their lead to 16 points (16-32) with 7:43 to play in the first half. La Sierra cut the lead to 41-30 with less than two minutes to play in the opening frame, with The Master's taking a 30-44 advantage in to the locker room.
The Master's opened the second half just as hot as they started the game, using a 10-0 run to quickly extend their lead to 54-30. By the 12:08 mark of the second half, they extended their lead to 37-67, cruising to the 85-54 victory over the Golden Eagles.
The Master's is one of three Golden State Athletic Conference teams ranked in the top 15 NAIA Division I women's basketball teams, in the current preseason rankings, joining #3 Vanguard University and #13 Westmont College.
In the loss, the Golden Eagles had four players score in double-figures led by Tina Fantroy and Kailee Maeda who each notched 11 points, a career high for Maeda. Kristen Brummett and Faith Fantroy added 10 points each to round out the scoring.
Faith Fantroy led the team with eight rebounds, followed by Brummett and Tina Fantroy who finished with six rebounds and five rebounds respectively.
With the loss, the women's basketball team drops to 3-6 on the season. They will be out of action for a week before hosting the University of La Verne next Saturday night, before taking some time off for final exams.
