Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Late Lead Gets Away In Loss To Menlo

Atherton, Calif. - Looking to build on their first win of the season, earlier in the week at Simpson University, the Golden Eagles played the second game of their road trip to Northern California, at Menlo College. After tying the score and taking a 2-1 lead late in the second half, the Golden Eagles were unable to hang on for the victory, falling 3-2 in overtime to the Oaks.

In what was described as a tightly contested match-up throughout, the two teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half. But it was Menlo who started the scoring with a goal in the 69th minute, in the second half.

Approximately eight minutes later, sophomore Josue Meza scored the equalizer on an assist from Raymundo Maldonado. The Golden Eagles then took a 2-1 lead when Joseph Fernandez netted a goal, off an assist from Edgar Padilla, in the 83rd minute.

Unfortunately, for the Golden Eagles, Menlo answered back by tying the score at 2-2 just over three minutes later, eventually sending the game into overtime.

Five and a half minutes into the overtime period, Menlo secured the victory with a goal on the first shot of the overtime period.

Aside from the final score, the match was equal in many ways. The two teams each finished with seven shots on goal. And all other statistical categories were relatively equal, with neither team holding a distinct advantage.

The men's soccer team is now 1-1 in Cal Pac play (1-6 overall). They will complete their Northern California trip, on Sunday afternoon, with a final Cal Pac match-up at the University of California – Merced.
