Santa Barbara, Calif. - The women's volleyball team dropped to 0-4 on the season with a 3-1 loss at Westmont College this evening. The Golden Eagles salvaged the third set but fell in four sets to the Warriors, 25-19, 18-25, 27-25, 25-14.
The Warriors utilized strong defense and a high kill percentage to improve their record to 4-6 on the season. They capitalized on 58 of their 136 attempts, with 21 errors, which was good for a .272 hitting percentage. They finished the match with six players tallying at least six kills. Ciena Colburn and Madison Serrano who had 13 kills and 10 kills, respectively, led the Warriors.
In comparison, the Golden Eagles connected on 35 of their 135 kill attempts, with 23 errors, resulting in a .089 attack percentage. Robyn Miller led the team with 12 kills, followed by Lina Semaia who added nine kills. Setter Caitlin Marinos finished the match with 22 assists and 10 digs. Chantel Washington led the Golden Eagles with 11 digs in the match.
As a team, the Warriors edged the Golden Eagles on the defensive side of play with 65 digs and 8 total blocks (3 solo blocks and 10 block assists). The Golden Eagles finished the match with 46 digs and four blocks (8 block assists).
La Sierra will look to get into the win column this weekend, as they travel to the Vanguard University tournament for two matches against two nationally ranked opponents. On Friday, the Golden Eagles will tangle with #19 The Master's College, followed by a Saturday night match-up with the host, #22 Vanguard University. The team will host Pacific Union College, in their home opener and Cal Pac Confernce opener, on Monday, September 8, at 5pm.
