Eagle Rock, Calif. - After surrendering three second-half goals in their home opening loss to Hope International last week, the men's soccer team was looking to rebound tonight, on the road, at Occidental College. Unfortunately, for the Golden Eagles, they were unable to come away with their first win of the season, after falling 1-0 to the Tigers.
The game winning, and only goal of the match, was scored in the sixth minute, by Morgan Bennett-Smith (assisted by Santiago Bedoya-Gall). The two teams played a scoreless 84:37 for the remainder of the match. The Tigers were unable to capitalize on a couple of point-blank chances, but nonetheless held on for the victory after surviving three straight corner kicks in the final two minutes, by the Golden Eagles.
The Golden Eagles were able to muster two shots on goal with a total of five shots in the match. Conversely, the Tigers finished with four shots on goal on 10 total shots.
The match was a tightly played contest throughout, with neither team shying away from the physicality. The two teams combined for a total of 25 fouls in the match, Occidental with 13 and La Sierra with 12.
The Golden Eagles now 0-3 on the season, will turn the page and look ahead to a match-up with Concordia University, next Wednesday, in Irvine. Next Wednesday's match at Concordia will be their final non-conference match before opening Cal Pac Conference play on September 16, at Simpson University.
