Women's Volleyball Loses To No. 22 Vanguard

Costa Mesa, Calif. - The Golden Eagles women's volleyball team dropped to 0-6 on the season after a straight set loss to No. 22 Vanguard University, 25-21, 25-16, 25-18. It was the second match of two matches at the Vanguard University Tournament. And La Sierra was looking to build on Friday's loss to No. 19 The Master's College. Where despite losing the match 3-0 to the Mustangs, each of the three sets could have gone in favor of the Golden Eagles.

Aside from the first set, which was relatively competitive throughout, the No. 22 Lions cruised to their eleventh victory of the season by taking the final two sets in convincing fashion.

In Set 2, after the score was tied at 5-5, the Lions pulled away cruising to a 25-16 win.

They followed things up with a 25-18 performance in Set 3. The Golden Eagles stayed close until the midway point of the set. With the scored tied at 13-13, the Lions closed out the match with a 12-5 run.

Lina Semaia once again led the way for La Sierra with nine kills to go along with eight digs, both team highs. Robyn Miller added seven kills and five digs.

Setter Angie Gonzales finished with 22 assists, three digs, and two block assists. And Abby Latuhoi contributed three kills, three digs, three block assists and one solo block.

The Lions rode an impressive .340 hitting percentage on their way to victory, led by Jessica Chase's 10 kills against only one error, on 20 total attempts.

The women's volleyball team will look to turn things around as they step into conference play on Monday evening. They will look to draw upon the confidence of playing at home where they finished with a 13-1 record last season. La Sierra will host Pacific Union College in their home opener and Cal Pac Conference opener, at 5pm, on Monday evening.
