Volleyball Complete Season Sweep of Redlands

Redlands, Calif. - For the second time this season, the women's volleyball team earned a 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-17) victory over the University of Redlands. After defeating the Bulldogs back on September 9, at home, the Golden Eagles traveled to Redlands for the rematch. La Sierra out-hit the Redlands by a margin of 46 kills to 20 kills. The Golden Eagles finished the match with a hitting percentage of .278 compared to the Bulldogs' percentage of .011.

La Sierra was in complete control throughout the entire match and never trailed in either of the first two sets. In Set 3, the Golden Eagles trailed briefly, but were able to quickly erase the deficit and cruise to their sixth win of the season. The win, pushed their overall record to 6-7 on the season, while the Bulldogs fell to 5-14 on the year.

Samantha Marquez led the team with 13 kills. Abby Latuhoi and Caitlin Marinos added 10 kills each, and Taylor Moran pitched in with six kills of her own. All four of the team leaders in kills for La Sierra finished with a hitting percentage above .320. As a team, La Sierra finished with a hitting percentage of .278.

The team countered 10 service errors with six service aces and made their presence felt at the net with a total of 12 block assists (six total blocks).

Marissa Fregoso finished with 24 assists and was joined by Smirti Sharma who added 15 assists on the night.

Libero Emily Morgan led the team with 12 digs, with Erin Miller and Maya Hanna adding 11 digs apiece.

Tonight's match was number four of six straight road matches for the Golden Eagles. The team will head right back into conference play this weekend with a Friday afternoon match-up at the University of Antelope Valley (0-3, 4-7), followed by a match against first place UC Merced (3-0, 10-4) on Saturday night. Saturday night's match will be a re-match of last year's Cal Pac Championship match. La Sierra is looking to stay in the final playoff spot in the standings, and perhaps move up a spot with two wins this weekend.
