Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Falls in Straight Sets to Menlo

Riverside, Calif. - The women's volleyball team dropped their first home match of the season, in a 3-0 loss to Menlo College (22-25, 20-25, 14-25) in tonight's non-conference match. La Sierra falls to 4-3 on the season.

After leading for much of Set 1, the Oaks used a 5-0 run after trailing 14-9, tying the score at 14-14. Menlo never trailed again as they held on for the 25-22 set victory.

In similar fashion, the two teams went back-and-forth for the majority of Set 2, but once again the Oaks put some space between themselves and the Golden Eagles to take the set, 25-20, and take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.

The Oaks closed the match out with a convincing 25-14 win in the third and final set. Menlo started the set with nine straight points and never looked back.

The Golden Eagles struggled with their attack as they finished with 29 kills, 21 attack errors, on 118 attempts for a hitting percentage of .068, while the Oaks countered with 45 kills and only eight errors, on 111 attempts and a hitting percentage of .333.

Samantha Marquez led the way for La Sierra with 10 kills on the night. Caitlin Marinos pitched in with eight kills and Abby Latuhoi added six kills against only one error.

Menlo's Maggie McDonald led all players with 20 kills, one error on 30 attempts for an impressive attack percentage of .633.

It will be another quick turnaround for the Golden Eagles who will host Simpson University tomorrow afternoon in their Cal Pac opener. Friday's conference match will be the third match in three days for La Sierra, who will close the weekend out with a Saturday night match against Pacific Union College. Friday's match against Simpson will get underway at 2pm.
