Riverside, Calif. - The men's soccer team put an end to their four-match skid with a 4-0 shutout of Soka University in tonight's Cal Pac match-up. With the win the Golden Eagles improve to 5-4-1 in Cal Pac play (7-6-1 overall). The team spread the scoring around, with three different players scoring a goal.
La Sierra took an early lead when the Lions scored an own goal in the 9th minute, accounting for all the scoring in the first half of play.
In the second half, the Golden Eagles erupted for three goals. Yungbae Kweon scored on a free kick in the 69th minute, followed by a goal from Leo Behena on a "volley" outside the box that found the net in the 75th minute. The Golden Eagles leader in goals, Mingyu Wee, scored his 11th goal of the season, unassisted, in the 85th minute of play.
Back-up goalkeeper Irvin Alberto picked up his first win of the season, making two save on 12 total shots.
The men's soccer team will be back in action on Friday afternoon when they host Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Embry-Riddle is currently 5-3 in Cal Pac play (9-5 overall) and trail the Golden Eagles by one point in the South Division standings. However, the Eagles do hold the tiebreaker over La Sierra by virtue of a 3-1 over the Golden Eagles in their first meeting of the season.
