Playing the second of back-to-back games versus Biola University, the Golden Eagles women's basketball team fell 66-36 in their home opener tonight. After the two teams played relatively even after the first quarter of play, Biola took control in the middle two quarters, to improve to 3-1 on the season, while the Golden Eagles drop to 0-3.
Both teams started the contest with focused defensively, with neither team having much success putting the ball in the basket. After the first 10 minutes of play, Biola held on to a slim 8-6 advantage.
By the halftime break, the Eagles extended their lead to 27-14, with La Sierra scoring half of their points from the charity stripe.
In the second half of play, Biola's offense began to heat up. The Eagles began knocking down their perimeter looks and finished the half by knocking down 6-of-11 three-point shots.
Leading scorer for the Eagles, DeMoria White finished with 11 points, while Aubree Mittel added nine points and nine rebounds.
La Sierra's Kristen Brummett scored 15 points while pulling down nine rebounds, just shy of a double-double. Freshmen Korie Siets matched a game-high with nine rebounds in addition to three assists and two steals. Chelsie Baham added eight points, four rebounds, four assists and a steal.
The team will now turn their sights to Pomona Pitzer College. La Sierra will host the Sagehens, next Thursday, November 19, at 5:30pm. The Golden Eagles defeated the Sagehens in both meetings last season.
