Riverside, Calif. - The Golden Eagles baseball team dropped a road game at the University of Redlands by a final of 13-4. It was the season opener for the Bulldogs who scored their 13 runs on 19 hits.
It was La Sierra who struck first with consecutive runs in the third and fourth innings. A Matt Valenzuela RBI single scored John Salinas, who led the inning off with a single and advanced to third base on a single by Adrian Gardea. Salinas hit an RBI groundout, scoring Garret Larson who reached base on an error and advanced to scoring position on a bunt single by Cody Molla.
Trailing 2-0 entering the bottom of the fourth inning, the Bulldogs struck for three runs and tacked on another four runs in the fifth inning, for a 7-2 lead.
The Golden Eagles cut into that lead with two runs in their half of the sixth inning. But Redlands got them back in their half of the sixth, and added to their lead with a run in the seventh and three runs in the eighth inning.
Salinas led the Golden Eagles with two RBI's, going 1-for-4 with a walk. The team tallied their four runs on seven hits. The seven hits were spread throughout the entire lineup, coming from seven different players.
The baseball team drops to 4-6 on the season with the latest loss. They will be back on the field this Friday, when the Golden Eagles host the Oregon Institute of Technology in an afternoon doubleheader starting at 11am.
