Golden Eagles Salvage Game In 4-Game Series at Simpson

Redding, Calif. - After dropping both games of yesterday's doubleheader, the Golden Eagles baseball team was able to salvage a game of the 4-game series at Simpson University.

The Golden Eagles dominated the third game of the series, 19-9, as their bats came alive. The team scored 19 runs on 13 hits, including two big innings where they scored nine runs and eight runs respectively. Matt Zurita had a huge game, tallying six RBI's and going 3-for-5 in the game including a base's clearing double and a 3-run homerun.

The Golden Eagles finished with nine total players notching at least one RBI, while five of those nine drove in two or more runs.

The Red Hawks nearly matched the Golden Eagles in total hits, but weren't quite able to keep pace runs scored. Victor Mena pitched seven complete innings to pick up the victory.

In the second game of the day, the Red Hawks tamed La Sierra's offense. The Golden Eagles were held to just one run on two hits, falling 7-1. John Salinas broke-up the no-hit bid, with a double in the fifth inning.

In the previous days action, the two teams played two competitive games, with the Red Hawks coming out on top, 5-2 and 8-6.

In the first contest, the Golden Eagles held a 2-1 lead heading into the sixth inning, until the Red Hawks scored four runs over the next three innings to capture the win.

In the second game of the doubleheader, La Sierra trailed by a score of 6-2 after three innings of play. The Golden Eagles scored four runs in the top half of the fourth inning, tying the game at 6-6. But the Red Hawks answered back quickly with a run in the bottom half of the fourth inning and another insurance run in the fifth.

La Sierra scored six runs on four hits, while the Red Hawks scored their eight runs on nine hits. Both teams struggled defensively as they combined for a total of eight errors in the game.

The Golden Eagles (7-29) return to their home field on Sunday, when they host the University of Antelope Valley. The doubleheader is scheduled to get started at 11am.
