Riverside, Calif. - Williams College took both games of today's doubleheader, with final scores of 7-4 and 10-1.
Game 1 was a competitive contest throughout, until the Ephs were able to push four runs across the plate in the top half of the sixth inning. Williams, an NCAA DII program from Massachusetts, jumped out to the early lead with two runs in the opening frame. La Sierra tied the score in the bottom half of the seconding inning, but Williams regained the lead with a run in the fourth.
Leading 3-2, the Ephs then scored their four runs to take control of the game and cruised their way to a 7-4 victory. While the Golden Eagles threatened, scoring runs in the sixth and seventh innings, they were unable to overcome the deficit.
Berlyn Benavides, Brianna Gutierrez, and Mercedes Gasparovic each finished with two hits in the game and accounted for six of La Sierra's nine hits. Brittany Martinez led the team with two RBI's in the loss.
In Game 2, the Ephs bats stayed hot as they struck for 10 runs on 10 hits. Williams tallied double digits in hits for the second consecutive game. The Ephs scored their 10 runs by scoring at least one run in each of the five innings played.
The Golden Eagles were held to just four hits in the second game. They were able to push one run across the plate in the final inning to break up the shutout bid.
La Sierra will look to turn the page quickly as they open a 4-game series against Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.) tomorrow afternoon, at 1pm. The team will take Saturday off, before closing out the 4-game series on Sunday morning at 10am.
