Golden Eagles Salvage Tie to Remain Unbeaten in Cal Pac Play

Angiwn, Calif. - The Golden Eagles escaped with a 1-1 tie at Pacific Union College this afternoon, with the help of another late goal by Mingyu Wee. Wee, the current Cal Pac Offensive Player of the Week, worked his magic again by scoring a goal with only one second remaining on the game clock. Once again, it was Yungbae Kweon fed Wee with a perfect pass to create the opportunity.

La Sierra was on the verge of dropping their first Cal Pac match on the season, but instead salvaged a point and pushed their record to 3-0-1 in conference play (4-2-1 overall).

After the two teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half, the Golden Eagles poured it on in the second half. The controlled the ball and play for the large majority of the time, but it was the Pioneers who struck first with a goal in the 55th minute. In what seemed liked an innocent play, Franco Martinez placed a header into the top right corner of the goal for the first goal of the match.

But the Golden Eagles didn't seem phased as they kept attacking the Pioneers zone, with 18 of their 34 total shots coming in the second half. La Sierra outshot Pacific Union 34-11 for the match, including 18-5 in shots on goal. But time and again, Pioneers goalkeeper Edgar Lomeli turned away the Golden Eagles chances, by collecting 17 total saves, 12 of them coming in the second half and overtime periods alone.

Mingyu Wee nearly worked his magic again in the waning seconds of the second overtime period, but his shot just over the crossbar as the final buzzer sounded.

Wee led the Golden Eagles in total shots (9) and shots on goal (5). Also notable was the play of Dakota Shelton who finished with four of his five shots being on goal.

While La Sierra's winning streak was temporarily halted, they remain unbeaten in their last five matches. The team will now turn their focus to California Maritime Academy. The Golden Eagles will face the Keelhaulers (0-2) on Friday afternoon, at 4pm, before returning home.
