Men's Basketball Unable to Overcome Slow Start

Riverside, Calif. - The Golden Eagles men's basketball team dropped to 2-11 on the season after falling to Benedictine University (Mesa, AZ), 93-84. La Sierra was unable to slow the Redhawks Troy Conley who connected for 11 three-point baskets in addition to going 6-of-7 from the free throw line.

Over the first six plus minutes of play, the Golden Eagles were held to just four points while giving up 24 points. After La Sierra trimmed the lead to 32-20 over the next six minutes, Benedictine answered with their own 13-2 run, pushing their lead to 45-22. By the end of the first half, the Redhawks settled for a comfortable 52-33 lead.

Benedictine started the second half with two made three-pointers, quickly extending their lead to 25 points. But over the next nine minutes, the Golden Eagles shaved 13 points off the lead, to trail 70-50 with 10:05 to play.

The Redhawks quickly answered back with an 8-0 run, pushing the lead back up to 78-59. But the Golden Eagles fought back once again, cutting the lead to 89-84 in the final minute of play, but ultimately ran out of time.

Keenan Braden notched another double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Gerald Williams also collected 20 points in addition to six rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Andre Marquez added 10 points and four rebounds.

La Sierra will travel to Vanguard University on Tuesday evening for a non-conference game that was rescheduled from last month. The Golden Eagles resume Cal Pac play this coming weekend when they make their first trip to Northern California.
