Riverside, Calif. - The women's volleyball team cruised to their fourth conference win this afternoon by defeating the University of Antelope Valley in straight sets (25-15, 25-19, 25-14). The Golden Eagles (4-2, 8-8) snapped a three-match losing streak in the process and evened their overall record back to the .500 mark. La Sierra momentarily moves into sole possession of third place in the Cal Pac standings, pending the outcome of tonight's UC Merced match at Providence Christian College.
The Golden Eagles dominated from start to finish, ending the match with a .354 hitting percentage (44 kills, nine errors, and 99 attempts). Kiana Krumm was one kill shy of matching her career-high (18 kills), as she finished with 17 kills and a hitting percentage of .375. Michele Mendizabal added 11 kills and an attack percentage of .435.
The team tallied a total of 47 digs, led by libero Emily Morgan with 18. Krumm also contributed 12 digs in the winning effort.
Marissa Fregoso had 21 of the team's 36 assists, and fellow setter Smriti Sharma who collected 12 assists on the afternoon followed her.
La Sierra had a total of 11 service aces with Mendizabal leading the team with five aces. It is the seventh time this season the women's volleyball team has earned double-digits in service aces.
It will be another quick turnaround for the women's volleyball team who will host the University of California – Merced in a Cal Pac match. If the Bobcats defeat Providence this evening, the two teams will be playing for sole possession of third place in the conference standings, as both teams would be tied with identical 4-2 records. Tomorrow night's match is scheduled to get underway at 730pm.
