Men's Soccer Cruise to Victory Over Firestorm

Riverside, Calif. - The men's soccer team closed out their home schedule in style tonight by defeating St. Katherine College by a final of 7-0. The Golden Eagles seven goals are the most goals scored in a single match since last year's season finale against Providence Christian, when La Sierra defeated the Seabeggars, 7-2. Monday's non-conference match pushed the Golden Eagles record to 6-8-1 on the season.

Prior to the match the team recognized their five seniors on this year's squad (Irvin Alberto, Ray Maldonado, Myton McDonald, Josue Meza, and Javier Prieto). Four of the five seniors scored a goal in the final home match of their Golden Eagles career. Alberto, Maldonado, Meza, and Prieto each scored a goal in the match.

Six of the seven goals were scored in the second half of play. Felipe Mendizabal scored the first two goals of the match, on assists by Noe Garcia. Alfonso Gonzalez scored the fourth goal of the evening, in a barrage that saw La Sierra score four times in the final 10 minutes of play.

The team will head to Arizona on Thursday for their final regular season match, at Embry-Riddle University.
