Volleyball Splits Final Regular Season Conference Matches

The women's volleyball team split their final two regular season Cal Pac matches by losing 3-2 (21-25, 25-21, 13-25, 25-15, 15-13) at the University of California-Merced and defeating the University of Antelope Valley in straight sets (25-22, 25-11, 25-16). With Friday's loss, the Golden Eagles will be the fourth seed in this week's Cal Pac Volleyball Championship Tournament.

La Sierra and Merced played a classic back-and-forth match, and the Golden Eagles had a one set lead twice, but were unable to put the Bobcats away. Merced narrowly took the fifth and final set, 15-13, to sweep the season series from La Sierra and secure the number three seed in the tournament.

Taylor Moran led the team in kills with 15 and a hitting percentage of .256. Michele Mendizabal added 14 kills and a hitting percentage of .244, to keep pace with Moran. Kiana Krumm rounded out the players who tallied double-digit kills by contributing 13 kills and a team-high 29 digs.

Emily Morgan finished with 20 digs, while Marissa Fregoso pitched in with 21 assists and 14 digs. Smriti Sharma also added 22 assists and eight digs in the match.

The Bobcats won the battle at the net by out-blocking the Golden Eagles, 11-4, with a total of 20 block assists and one solo block.

On Saturday night, the team rebounded to sweep the Pioneers in their final regular season conference match. The Golden Eagles cruised to victory behind Krumm's game-high, 12 kills, which were just two kills short of matching the Pioneers team total for kills.

The Golden Eagles had a season-high 14 service aces with Fregoso, Krumm, and Mendizabal each collecting three along the way.

With the seedings now set, the qualifying teams will now look towards Thursday's semifinal matches…

8pm - #1 Embry-Riddle University vs #4 La Sierra University

Prior to Thursday's semifinal, the Golden Eagles will play one final non-conference match on Tuesday evening at San Diego Christian College, at 730pm.
