Riverside, Calif. - The women's basketball team picked up their second win of the season by handily defeating St. Katherine College, 86-49. With the win, the team improves to 2-1 on the season. This was the first ever meeting between the Golden Eagles and the Firestorm.

The Golden Eagles started slowly, but used strong performances in the second quarter and third quarter to pull away and cruise to victory.

After the first 10 minutes of play, the Golden Eagles held a slight 13-10 lead, but over the next two quarters, La Sierra outscored the Firestorm 62-21, which proved to be the difference in the game. They led by as many as 46 points during the course of the game.

The Firestorm were held to just 28-percent shooting from the field, while the Golden Eagles finished the game going 35-for-79 from the field (44%). They also outrebounded St. Katherine by a total of 55-37.

Alexis Davis led the Golden Eagles with 19 points and 10 rebounds, for her first double-double of the season. She also contributed three assists and two steals. Also scoring in double figures was Elsie Mejia who tallied 11 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Michele Flynn and Saray Rivera each pitched in with eight points in the win. Flynn added five rebounds on the night as well.

The leading scorer for the Firestorm was Akayla Taylor who led all players with 21 points, including seven rebounds and six steals.

The women's basketball team heads back out onto the road to face Westmont College this coming Saturday night. Saturday's tip-off is scheduled for 7pm.
