La Sierra University Softball team dropped its first game of the season and went on to tie the second one as they hosted Biola University on Friday.
First game started with both teams getting three quick outs during the first inning. The Eagles went on to score two runs on the second to take an early lead. Madrid got on base after getting hit by a pitch and Ramon got on base on Taylor Ross's missed catch; Morales would then hit a double to deep right center and brought in both runs. La Sierra would cut the lead short with a run on the bottom of the second inning. Taylor Gimondo single to center to start the inning for the Golden Eagles. Brianna Gutierrez got on base on Galindo's misplayed grounder. Gimondo would score after Brittney Martinez reached base on Amezquita's missed catch.
The Eagles added a run on the third to take a 3-1 lead on the Golden Eagles. La Sierra added a run on the sixth to bring the score 3-2 in favor of Biola University. Going into the bottom of the seventh, La Sierra would fall short of a come back having bases loaded and two outs; Taylor Gimondo would fly out to first to end the game 3-2 in favor of the Eagles.
Taylor Ross and Melanie Viduarri led the Golden Eagles with two hits each. Sarai Camacho picked up her first lost of the season.
Second game of the day saw the Eagles take a 3-0 lead by the end of the first inning. Genifer Garbellini scored a run for La Sierra on Maddox balk. Both teams had a strong fourth inning with Biola adding two more runs and La Sierra scoring four runs on the Eagles to tie the score 5-5.
The Golden Eagles took the lead on the fifth inning after Rylie Ruckle hit a single to center to bring Chelsea Cantwell in. With the score 6-5 in favor of La Sierra, Hall went on to score a two-run home run to give the lead back to the Eagles 7-6. Berlyn Benavides hit a double to right field to bring Rylie Ruckle in to tie the game. The game ended 7-7 due to sunset.
Ruckle and Benavides led the Golden Eagles with two hits each. Courtney Morton recorded two RBI's and one run for La Sierra. Jackie Zacarias pitched four innings for La Sierra allowing five runs and giving up nine hits. Mackenzy Daniels threw the other three innings for La Sierra only allowing two runs and three hits on 12 AB.
Golden Eagles will host Lewis and Clark College on Friday Feb 12 with a noon start.
