Golden Eagles Drop Two at HIU Tournament

Fullerton, Calif. - Playing at the Hope International Labor Day Tournament, the Golden Eagles women's volleyball dropped both matches in Friday's action. La Sierra fell to #19 Biola University 3-2 (25-20, 25-20, 22-25, 23-25, 15-12) and The Master's College 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-17). The loss drops the women's volleyball team to 0-4 on the season.

In the first match of the day, the Golden Eagles mounted a comeback that fell short in their five set loss to Biola. After finding themselves down 0-2 in the match, La Sierra battled back to win Set's 3 and 4 and forcing a fifth and decisive set.

The fifth set was tight throughout, with the Golden Eagles taking the early 5-2 lead, but with the scored tied 9-9, Biola rattled off five straight points to take a 14-9 lead they would never relinquish.

Briana Greeley led the charge with 12 kills, with Michele Mendizabel adding 10 kills. Emily Morgan tallied 18 digs, while Taylor Moran and Mendizabel contributed four blocks apiece.

In the second match of the day, the Mustangs defeated La Sierra in straight sets. The Master's trailed only twice in the match, as the Golden Eagles struggled to fiind their rhythm.

Kiana Krumm and Mendizabel led the team in kills with seven kills and eight kills, respectively. Morgan added another 14 digs in the loss.

The Golden Eagles will get another shot at the Mustangs in their next scheduled match, on September 14, when they travel to Santa Clarita for the non-conference match.
