Men's Basketball Falls Short in High Scoring Affair

Lancaster, Calif. - Despite having six players score in double-figures, the men's basketball team fell short in Saturday's 105-103 loss at the University of Antelope Valley. Matching the Golden Eagles were the Pioneers who also had six players score in double-figure in the high scoring affair. The loss drops La Sierra to 0-8 in conference play (1-21 overall).

Isaac Deese knocked down a three point shot for three of his team-leading 26 points, cutting the Pioneers halftime lead to 57-51. In the second half, La Sierra outscored Antelope Valley 52-48, but the team fell short in the conference match-up.

Deese also tied a team-high with six assists and three rebounds. Kyle Hamilton also finished with six assists to go along with his 18 points, eight rebounds, and two steals.

Rey Solorzano and Christian Jackson added 16 points each, while Eduardo Gomez del Casal Rodriguez went 5-of-5 from the field to finish with 11 points and nine rebounds, just shy of his eighth double-double. Rounding out the leading scorer for the Golden Eagles is Curtis Brisbane who tallied 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting.

The Pioneers were led by Franky Teran who had 31 points, while shooting 11-of-15 from the field, including 9-for-13 from the three point line.

La Sierra held a 44-28 advantage on the boards, including a 17-8 advantage on the offensive boards. But the Golden Eagles were unable to take advantage of their trips to the free throw line, as they finished a disappointing 16-for-26 from the charity stripe.

The team will travel to Simpson University this weekend for their next contest on Saturday night, February 4.

NOTE: The team's overall record now stands at 1-21 due to a forfeit from a game played last month. The Golden Eagles lost to Vanguard University (91-69) back on December 10, 2016. But the Lions, who recently discovered that they played with an ineligible player in that contest, self-reported the violation and were forced to forfeit that game along with a handful of others.
