Riverside, Calif. - The Golden Eagles used a strong first half and cruised to their first conference victory of the season, in a 73-48 win over Pacific Union College. La Sierra improves to 1-2 in Cal Pac play (5-11 overall). The team will travel north for their first Cal Pac road games of the conference season.
The Golden Eagles led for all but 36 seconds of the game, as they jumped out to a 21-13 lead by the end of the first quarter. In what was a near duplicate of the first quarter, La Sierra subsequently outscored the Pioneers 21-12 in second quarter of play. They would take a 42-25 lead into the halftime break and never look back from there.
La Sierra maintained their advantage for much of the second half and cruised their way to a 73-48 win.
Alexis Davis led the way with a double-double of 17 point and 12 rebounds. Amanda Sanchez added 10 points and seven rebounds, while Rachel Hahn contributed nine points and four rebounds.
Point guard DeShields Fajardo pitched in with four points, two rebounds, a game high five assists and three steals.
The Golden Eagles held a 45-33 rebounding advantage, including a 15-6 advantage on the offensive boards.
The team will look to push their conference record to the .500 mark when they travel to California Maritime Academy on Thursday evening. The Keelhaulers are currently 0-2 in Cal Pac play (1-16 overall).
