Riverside, Calif. - It was a relatively quick, straight set win for the Golden Eagles, as they defeated Simpson University, 3-0 (25-13, 25-6, 25-17). La Sierra hit a blistering.488, with 48 kills, on 82 attempts, and only eight attack errors. The team improved to 6-2 in Cal Pac play and 12-7 overall.
La Sierra won the first two sets handily, before using a late run in Set 3 to complete the sweep. But the story of the night was the hard swinging Golden Eagles who were on target for much of the night, using power and finesse, whenever it was called for. They also used a balanced attack with six different players tallying at least six kills in the match.
Kiana Krumm finished with 10 kills, while Michelle Mendizabal added nine kills in the win. Kiana Velasco had eight kills, with the two middle hitters, Noelle Hamblin and Veronica Ramirez each notching seven kills. Rounding out the Golden Eagles attack was Briana Greely who contributed six kills on the night.
Marissa Fregoso and Cairon Fido led the team's offense with 25 and 18 assists, respectively. Emily Morgan led the defense, from her libero position, with a match-high 18 digs. Krumm also led the team with four service aces, including the match winner on the final point of the match.
Next up for the women's volleyball team will be a Wednesday night match-up with the University of Antelope Valley, at 7pm. Due to Friday's cancelled match. versus Pacific Union College, the match originally scheduled for November 4 (vs UAV) has now been moved to this coming Wednesday. Friday's cancelled match will now be played on November 4.
