Riverside, Calif. - The women's soccer team dropped their third straight match, in a 2-0 loss to #17 Embry-Riddle University. It's the fourth loss in six matches for the young squad, who started the season winning 10 of their first 11 matches. With a record of 3-3 in conference play and in fourth place in the Cal Pac standings, the Golden Eagles are still in control of their own fate in their attempt of earning the team's first ever berth in the conference tournament.
Embry-Riddle controlled play for the majority of the match, as they finished with 19 total shots, compared to eight for La Sierra. The Eagles also finished with a 9-2 advantage in shots-on-goal.
Jennifer Ruth scored the first goal of the match, in the 33rd minute, on an assist by Riley Martinson. The Eagles took the lead into halftime and added their second goal just two minutes and 37 seconds into the second half of play.
The loss sets up a Sunday afternoon match, versus Benedictine University, with much at stake. With the Golden Eagles looking to stay in the fourth and final playoff position, the Redhawks are right on La Sierra's heels with a record of 2-2-1. A win by either team would potentially loom large in the final weeks of the regular season schedule.
