Men's Basketball Comes Up Short Versus Westmont

Riverside, Calif. - The men's basketball team dropped to 0-3 with Tuesday's 81-70 loss to #25 Westmont College. In what proved to be a competitive, tight contest throughout most of the evening, the Warriors were able to put together a late run to put a little distance between them and the Golden Eagles. Turnovers continue to plague the young squad, as the team finished with 16 turnovers in the game.

The first half was back-and-forth with each team either tied or taking their share of the lead. The Warriors took a 39-35 lead into the half and eventually pushed the lead to as many as 10 points before the Golden Eagles cut the lead to one with under five minutes to play. That proved to be the closest the Golden Eagles would get as they were forced to send Westmont to the line where they converted a total of 22-of-25 free throw attempts in the second half alone.

The Warriors shot 34 total free-throws to the Golden Eagles 14, and they converted on 29 of the 34. Westmont finished with a slight advantage on the boards, 39-34, while also committing 16 turnovers in the game.

La Sierra had a season high 17 assists on 27 made baskets and also shot a season high 6-for-15 from beyond the arc.

Saladine Ganda made his season debut with 16 points on 8-of-16 shooting, while pulling down a total of six rebounds. Isaac Deese had 14 points and led the team with five assists, to go along with four rebounds and two steals. Rey Solorzano also contributed 14 points and for the second game in a row came up one rebound shy of a double-double.

The men's basketball team will be out of action for about one week before heading to Chapman University, next Thursday (November 16). The Panthers defeated La Sierra in both meetings last season.
