Strong First Half Propels MBB to Victory Over Westcliff

Riverside, Calif. - The men's basketball team had five players score in double-figures, in the Golden Eagles, 93-83, defeat of Westcliff University. La Sierra led the Warriors by as man as 36 points before settling for the 10-point victory in Wednesday's non-conference game, which saw both teams shoot a combined 74 free throws (Westcliff – 46, La Sierra – 28).

The Golden Eagles led from the opening tip to the final buzzer. They jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. By the halftime break, La Sierra was fortunate to take a 55-28 lead into the locker room.

Kenny Lewis led the Golden Eagles with 21 points and nine rebounds, on 6-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc. Curtis Brisbane added a season-high 13 points, while DJ Everage pitched in with 11 points, seven assists, and two steals. Saladine Ganda and Rey Solorzano both shot a perfect 5-of-5 from the field and scored 12 points and 10 points, respectively.

The Golden Eagles held the Warriors to just 37-percent from the field, including 29-percent in the first half alone. As a team, La Sierra shot 49-percent from the field and connected on 20 of their 28 free throw attempts.

The team will now set their sights on their conference opener against the University of Antelope Valley. The Golden Eagles will travel to Lancaster, on Saturday night, to face the Pioneers (5-2) in their Cal Pac opener.
