Riverside, Calif. - The Golden Eagles baseball team split this weekend's 4-game series against Bethesda University. On Friday, La Sierra lost 24-3 before winning the second game 6-5. After a day off, the two teams returned to action on Sunday after the rain subsided, with the Golden Eagles wining 11-10 in walk-off fashion in Game 1, then falling 4-3 in Game 2 after giving up a run in the final three innings of play. The team's record now stands at 8-8 on the season.
In Friday's 6-5 win, David Roman and Andrew Lundstrom each picked up two hits in the victory accounting for four of the team's seven hits. Roman, Josh Jubile, and Craig Woolson each collected one RBI.
Jeremy Guerrero went five complete innings, in the 7-inning affair, to pick up the victory after giving up four runs on five hits.
Sunday's opening game proved to be a tale of two big innings. For the Golden Eagles, it was a 10-run third inning that vaulted them to a 10-1 lead until Bethesda answered back with nine runs of their own in the top half of the fourth inning, tying the score at 10-10.
Fortunately, for La Sierra, they were able to take advantage of two Bethesda errors in the bottom of the seventh inning, to win the game in walk-off fashion when Lundstrom was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Daniel Wray who led off the inning with a single to centerfield.
Eight different players tallied at least one hit in the game, with Wray and Woolson leading the team with two hits and two RBI's apiece. Lundstrom, also picked up two RBI's and went 1-for-2 in the game.
Chris Johnson picked up the win after pitching 3 1/3 innings, after coming in for relief to give up two runs (both unearned) and two hits.
Bethesda answered back to take the fourth and final game of the series, by scoring a run in each of the final three innings.
The team will return to action next weekend for a 3-game series at the University of Antelope Valley. The Golden Eagles will travel to Lancaster for a single game on Friday, followed by a Sunday doubleheader. Games are scheduled to start at 11am on both days.
