Baseball Takes Opener From Providence

The baseball team opened a 3-game series with Providence Christian College today, with a commanding 7-0 victory. The Golden Eagles scored all seven runs over three consecutive innings, while the pitching staff held the Sea Beggars to just two hits on the afternoon. The win pushes La Sierra's record to 6-13 on Cal Pac play (14-21 overall).

The scoring started in the third inning for the Golden Eagles who capitalized on two throwing errors by Providence to push two runs across the plate. The inning was capped off by a 2-run double by designated hitter, Craig Woolson who drove the ball to the gap in left-center, which the Providence left fielder was unable to secure on his way to the ground.

Matt Zimprich added another run in the bottom of fourth inning, with a pinch-hit homerun to push the lead to 5-0. Roman followed with a 2-run homer in the fifth to round out the scoring for La Sierra.

Starting pitcher Thomas Peterson, the reigning Cal Pac Pitcher of the Week, picked up his second consecutive win after giving up two hits, three walks, while picking up six strikeouts in five innings of work. Gabriel Gonzalez and Noah Ford each pitched two perfect innings to secure the victory.

Matt Majher and Andrew Lundstrom each picked up two hits and scored a run in the game for the Golden Eagles.

The two teams will be back at it tomorrow, for a doubleheader that is set to get underway at 11am.
