Men's Soccer Win Second Straight Heading Into Conference Play

Riverside, Calif. - Carrying the momentum from their first win of the season, on Thursday, the men's soccer team came away with an 8-1 win over St. Katherine College. The Golden Eagles scored their eight goals on a total of 25 shots, including 18 shots on goal. Six of the eight goals were scored in the first half alone. The win improved La Sierra's record to 2-4 on the season.

Abel Cornejo started the scoring, in the 5th minute, with an unassisted goal. In fact, only two of the Golden Eagles goals were scored off of an assist. One of the two goals was the first of two goals scored by Noe Garcia. Garcia, assisted by Franco Jourdan, scored at 9:47 then followed that up with another scored just 22 seconds later.

Israel Vasquez scored the team's fourth goal and also collected the other assist when he set up Brandon Chavez in the 43rd minute. Sandwiched in between those two plays was a goal by Wuilberto Ortiz who pushed the lead to 5-0.

Pedro Blaquier and Cornejo, in the second half of play, scored the other two Golden Eagles goals, unassisted. Cornejo ended up starting the scored as well as finishing it for the Golden Eagles who will now set their sights on Cal Pac play.

The team will open Cal Pac conference play this coming Thursday, at home, when they host Sierra Nevada College. The men's game kicks off at 6pm, followed by the women's opener, at approximately 8pm.
