Vasquez Scored Hat Trick in Win Over Maritime

Riverside, Calif. – The men's soccer team won their fourth consecutive match and improved to 2-0 in Cal Pac play with an 8-0 win over CSU Maritime. Israel Vasquez finished with a hat trick and added an assist in the winning effort. The Golden Eagles are now at .500 with a record of 4-4 overall.

Sabastian Perry started the scoring in the 8th minute, by scoring the first of four goals in the opening half. Vasquez then scored back-to-back goals in a span of two minutes and 18 seconds. Franco Jourdan assisted on the first of Vasquez's goals, while the second goal was scored unassisted. Wuilberto Ortiz rounded out the scoring, in the first half, when he connected on a pass from Felipe Mendizabal, in the 45th minute.

Abel Cornejo started the scoring in the second half with an unassisted goal in the 52nd minute. The lead was pushed to 6-0 just five minutes later when Vasquez found Noe Garcia, in the 58th minute. Vasquez followed that up with his third goal of the night, unassisted, in the 65th minute. In similar fashion to the first half, Mendizabal connected with Ortiz, in the 76th minute, to close out the scoring.

La Sierra held a distinct advantage in both total shots, 37-2, and shots-on-goals, 20-0.

Next up for the Golden Eagles will be another Cal Pac match-up with Providence Christian College. The Seabeggars will visit La Sierra this coming Thursday evening in search of their first conference win. Providence Christian (2-4-1) fell in their Cal Pac opener, to UC Merced, by a final of 9-0 this past Saturday. Thursday's contest is set for an 8pm start.
