Riverside, Calif. - The men's basketball team dropped their second straight conference game, falling to California Maritime Academy, 74-58. The loss drops the Golden Eagles to 1-3 in Cal Pac play. The team will look to get back in the win column on Saturday night, when they play host to the University of California-Merced.
Despite a strong start by the Golden Eagles, who surrendered just four points over the first 10 minutes of play and lead by a score of 16-4, the team was unable to sustain it and found themselves trailing at the half, 32-28.
The flood gates opened in the second half, when the Keelhaulers erupted from the three-point line, where they scored 30 of their 42, second half points. Maritime converted 14 field goals in the second half, with 10 of them coming from beyond the arc. The three-point barrage quickly put the Golden Eagles on their heels and put the Keelhaulers out of reach.
DJ Everage led the team with 13 points, while Isaac Deese and Cameron Jackson each pitched in with 12 points apiece. Guard Kenny Lewis rounded out the double-figure scorers with a tally of 10 points in the loss.
The Bobcats will visit La Sierra on Saturday night, at 8:30pm, looking to keep sole possession of second place in the conference standings. Merced lost their first conference game of the season, at the University of Antelope Valley, on Thursday night. They currently lead the Cal Pac in scoring defense, giving up 54 points per game in conference play, and are fifth in the nation giving up 68 points per game on the season.
