WBB: Slow Start Leads to Conference Loss to UAV

Riverside, Calif. - The women's basketball team dropped to 3-5 in Cal Pac play, with Saturday's 78-60 loss to the University of Antelope Valley. The Golden Eagles were looking to sweep the Pioneers, but fell short, in part by a slow start. The team currently sits in fifth place in the conference standings, three games out of a playoff spot with six games remaining on the conference schedule.

The Golden Eagles fell behind early and were caught playing catch-up the rest of the game. Trailing 23-4, in the opening quarter, La Sierra did fight back to trail just 40-32 at the halftime break. But the Pioneers went on to outscore the Golden Eagles 38-28 in the second half of play to pick up their sixth win in conference play.

Taylor Ivicevic scored a season-high 19 points, while shooting 15-or-18 from the free-throw line. Vyvy Tran also notched a season-high 13 points, and Alexis Davis finished with 10 points and nine rebounds, just one rebound shy of her eighth double-double.

La Sierra will now shift their attention to Pacific Union College. The Golden Eagles will host the Pioneers on Thursday evening, looking to snap a five-game skid. La Sierra defeated Pacific Union, 82-74, back on January 6, in their first meeting of the season. Tip-off for Thursday's match-up will be at 5:30pm.
