Riverside, Calif. - The women's soccer team dropped their first Cal Pac match of the season in Sunday's 3-2 loss at the University of Antelope Valley. The loss dropped the Golden Eagles to 5-2 on the season and 2-1 in the conference standings. La Sierra will hold their conference home-opener this coming Thursday evening.
Despite jumping out to an early lead, the Golden Eagles fell short against the Pioneers who scored three unanswered goals, on their way to victory. Jennifer Medina scored an unassisted goal just 10 minutes into the match, giving La Sierra a 1-0 lead. Antelope Valley answered with goals in the 26thand 31stminutes, to take a 2-1 lead into the halftime break. The Pioneers pushed the lead to 3-1 with the first goal of the second half, in the 64thminute, before the Golden Eagles' Savannah Aborqui cut the lead to 3-2 in the final minute of the match.
La Sierra outshot Antelope Valley, 14-11, and held a 9-7 advantage in shots-on-goal, but despite those advantages it was the Pioneers who walked away with the win.
The women's soccer team will look to rebound when they host Soka University, at 5pm, in their next match, on Thursday evening. The Lions are currently 2-2 in conference play (4-5 overall) and are coming off of 4-0 loss to Benedictine University.
