Riverside, Calif. - The women's soccer team dropped their third straight match, after falling, 1-2, to Marymount University, on Wednesday night. The team drops to sixth place in the conference standings, with a record of 2-3 in Cal Pac play (5-4 overall). The three-match losing streak matches the largest streak of its kind for the women's soccer team, who dropped three straight matches from October 10 to October 20, in 2017.
The Mariners took a 1-0 lead, after breaking through for their first goal in the 41stminute of the first half. Marymount added an insurance goal, in the 49thminute, pushing their lead to 2-0 over the Golden Eagles. The insurance goal proved to be necessary, after Andrea Sida struck for the Golden Eagles only goal of the match, on a shot that snuck by goalkeeper Jessica Ramirez. La Sierra's goal came in the 84thminute and added excitement for the final six minutes of play, but that would be as close as the Golden Eagles would get.
The two teams played a relatively even match, with both teams finishing with an equal number of shots (8), which included a slight advantage of 5-4, for La Sierra, in shots on goal.
The women's soccer team will now have a week to prepare for their next two matches. Their upcoming matches, next Thursday and Saturday, will be played in Arizona. The trip will start with a match against Embry-Riddle University, the defending conference champions and current first-place team in the Cal Pac standings. The final match of the trip will come in a match-up with Benedictine University, on Saturday night.
