El Cajon, Calif. - The women's basketball team traveled to San Diego Christian College this past Saturday night, where they dropped a 68-61 decision to the Hawks. The loss drops the team's record to an even 2-2 on the season. The Hawks outscored the Golden Eagles, 33-25 in the second half to walk away with the win.
La Sierra jumped out to an early lead, using an 8-0 run, in the second quarter, to push their lead to 28-19. But over the final 6-plus minutes of the second frame, the Hawks outscored the Golden Eagles 16-8, to trail by only one point, 36-35, at the half.
San Diego Christian grabbed the lead in the opening minutes of the third quarter and held the lead until the opening minutes of the final quarter, when the Golden Eagles tied the scored at 52-52 before eventually retaking the lead.
After pushing the lead to 58-54, with under five minutes to play, the Golden Eagles were unable to fend off a determined Hawks team, who finished the game on a 14-3 run.
While struggling from the field, the Golden Eagles did take advantage of their trips to the charity stripe, as they capitalized on 20-of-25 attempts (80 percent). The Golden Eagles also finished with only nine turnovers, compared to 17 for the Hawks. But one of the biggest disparities in the final outcome was the Hawks 11-of-28 shooting from beyond the arc, compared to only 5-of-22 for La Sierra. Half of SDCC's field goals made, were three-pointers, accounting for half of their total points.
Alexis Davis and Siena Jones each had 14 points, to lead the Golden Eagles. Davis also added six rebounds, while Jones dished out two assists. Octavia Williams contributed 11 points and six rebounds, matching Davis for the team lead in rebounds.
The Golden Eagles will remain on the road for their next contest, as thee team travels to Vanguard University, this Thursday, at 630pm.
