Riverside, Calif. - The Golden Eagles women's basketball team enjoyed a visit and competition against California Baptist University, in Thursday's non-conference match-up. The Lancers, in their first season as an NCAA Division I member, defeated the Golden Eagles by a final of 91-44. La Sierra did however, hold a 4-0 lead, by scoring the first two baskets of the game, before the Lancers took control in the 2ndquarter of play.
The game started as a defensive battle, with both teams struggling to score the ball. The two teams finished the first quarter, tied at 9-9. The Lancers then used a 27-9 advantage in the second frame, to take a 36-18 advantage into the halftime break. Cal Baptist eventually extended the margin in the second half of play, to finish with six players scoring in double-figures for the game.
Alexis Davis led the Golden Eagles with a double-double, of 22 points and 16 rebounds. Arianna Sheehy scored 13 points and was the only other player to score in double-digits for La Sierra. Aside from Davis and Sheehy, only Octavia Williams (7) and Dayna Tanaka (2) scored at least one point in the game.
The team will return to their home court on Wednesday when they will play host to Westcliff University, in a non-conference game, before opening the Cal Pac season, at home, on Saturday night, versus the University of Antelope Valley. Wednesday's tip-off will take place at approximately 630pm, following the conclusion of the men's game.
