Riverside, Calif. - The women's basketball team dropped their conference opener, Saturday night, 46-106, to #11 University of Antelope Valley. The Golden Eagles injury depleted squad was unable to keep up with the fast-paced play of the Pioneers. The loss drops the team's overall record to 3-9 on the season, with their final series of non-conference games to be played over the coming weeks.
By the end of the first quarter, the Pioneers jumped out to a 27-9 lead and never looked back. The Golden Eagles did score 18 points in the second quarter, their highest amount of all the quarters, but were unable to slow the Antelope Valley's offense, who finished with 82 shot attempts, including 42 three-point field goal attempts.
Arianna Sheehy was the only La Sierra player to notch double-figures in points scored, with 17. Maci Chen scored seven points and pulled down three rebounds, while Asia Anderson added six points, along with a team-high nine rebounds.
The women's basketball team will be out of action most of this week as they focus on final exams. The Golden Eagles will return to the floor on Saturday evening, when they visit Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, in a non-conference match-up, getting underway at 630pm.
