Men's Basketball Falls in Cal Pac Opener

Riverside, Calif. - The University of Antelope Valley used a late run to pull away from the Golden Eagles, handing the Golden Eagles a 76-61 loss to open the Cal Pac season. The loss drops La Sierra to 2-8 on the season, and 0-1 in the conference standings. The Golden Eagles have two non-conference games remaining, over the next week and a half, before diving back into conference play for the remainder of the season.

After trailing 35-29, at the halftime break, the Golden Eagles opened the second half with a 6-2 run, cutting the Pioneers lead to 37-35, but that proved to be as close as La Sierra would get. Over the final 18 minutes of the game, the two teams exchanged their share of runs, with the clear advantage going to Antelope Valley who steadily increased their lead over that span.

Kenny Lewis shot 4-of-9 from beyond the arc, and 6-for-8 from the charity stripe to lead the team with 20 points on the night. Jacob Angel played an efficient game with 13 points and six rebounds, while Kyle Hamilton added 11 points and seven rebounds in the loss. Saladine Ganda pulled down seven rebounds of his own to tie Hamilton for the team lead.

The men's basketball team will now turn their focus solely to their final exams during this upcoming week. However, the team will jump back into action on Saturday night when they host Life Pacific College, for a non-conference game, tipping off at 6pm. The Warriors defeated La Sierra, 79-64, in their first meeting of the season, back on November 13.
