Riverside, Calif. – Matt Zimprich hit a walk-off grand slam in Game 2 of the team's Friday doubleheader versus Bethesda University. After the team fell short, 9-6, in Game 1, the Golden Eagles scored nine runs in the final two innings, to take Game 2, 10-8. The team improved to 6-3 on the season, with Friday's win.
La Sierra led for much of Game 1, until the Flames scored eight runs in the top half of the eighth inning, to steal the 9-6 victory. The Golden Eagles did rally for three runs in the bottom of the ninth, and had the based loaded before a groundout ended the game.
David Roman finished the game going 3-for-4 and a run batted in, with Andrew Lundstrom collecting two hits and an RBI. Zimprich and Daniel Wray also finished with a hit and an RBI in the game.
The script got flipped in Game 2 as the Flames were the ones who held the lead for the majority of the game, until La Sierra came back to secure the split. Bethesda scored a run in the first, three runs in the fourth, and two runs in the seventh inning, to take a commanding 6-0 lead. The Golden Eagles got one run back in the seventh inning, then tied the game at 6-6, with five runs in the eighth inning.
The Flames answered right back with two runs in the top of the ninth, regaining the lead, 8-6. But with one out and the based loaded, Zimprich launched a ball over the fence for the walk-off victory.
Zimprich finished Game 2 with five runs batted in on four hits, including a run scored. Lundstrom added another three hits to his tally, while Nick Salinas and Roman eached notched two hits and two RBI's in the win. As a team, the Golden Eagles finished with a total of 14 hits in the game.
Eric Lucero came picked up the win in Game 2, while Kody Lewis was charged with the loss.
The team will travel to Westmont College, on Tuesday, for a game starting at 2pm. The team will return home on Friday, February 16, when they host St. Katherine College.
