Golden Eagles Comeback Falls Short on Pair of Free Throws In Finals Seconds

Riverside, Calif. - The men's basketball team suffered an 86-85, heartbreaking loss, to Simpson University in Saturday night's Cal Pac match-up. The Golden Eagles were whistled for a foul with 2.2 seconds remaining. The Redhawks went to the line, knocked down both free throws, to hang on for a victory. The loss drops the team to 3-7 in Cal Pac play (7-17 overall).

Simpson, who led 40-33 at the half, pushed their lead to as many as 15 points with 12:42 remaining benefitted from late whistle as the game clock clicked down. Isaac Deese gave the Golden Eagles their first lead, since the first half, with two free-throws, with 10 seconds on the game clock.

The loss diminished a strong offensive second half for La Sierra who scored 52 points on 15-of-24 shooting (63 percent), including 4-of-8 from the three-point line and 18-for-19 from the free throw line. Unfortunately, the team was unable to overcome a total of 14 extra possessions that the Redhawks had, including the outrebounding of the Golden Eagles 15-11 on the offensive glass.

Isaac Deese hit 12-of-13 free throws and led the team with 21 points and five assists, to go along with six rebounds. DJ Everage finished with 19 points, while Kenny Lewis and Jacob Angel each added 11 points on the night.
