Baseball: Golden Eagles Pick-up Second Conference Win of the Season

Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. - After winning the first of three games, against Marymount University, the Golden Eagles baseball team dropped the final two games of the series to the Mariners. La Sierra won Friday's single game, 3-2, but then dropped both games of a doubleheader by final scores of 8-6 and 18-5. The team fell to 9-14 on the season (2-9 in Cal Pac play).

La Sierra – 3, Marymount – 2

The Golden Eagles scored three runs over three innings to hang on for the victory. La Sierra led 2-0 heading into the seventh inning before the Mariners got on the board and cut the lead in half, 2-1. The Golden Eagles answered back with the eventual winning run in the top of the eighth inning, while Jullian Vizcarra pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up the save. Marymount out-hit La Sierra 10-8, but the Golden Eagles launched two homeruns by Josh Jubile and Matt Majher, with David Roman picking up the other RBI. Craig Woolson led the team with three hits. Jeremy Guerrero pitched 6 1/3 innings, giving up one run on seven hits to pick up the victory.

La Sierra – 6, Marymount – 8

The Mariners scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning, putting the Golden Eagles in an early hole they were never able to climb out of. Majher and Woolson continued their hot hitting, with Majher going 3-for-4 in the loss with a team-high two RBI's, and Woolson adding a 2-for-4 effort, with both players accounting for half of the team's 10 hits. Thomas Peterson was charged with the loss in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader.

La Sierra – 5, Marymount – 18

The Golden Eagles found themselves playing catch-up once again, as the Mariners erupted for 13 runs over the first two innings. Marymount scored at least one run in all but one of the seven innings played. La Sierra didn't help their cause by committing four errors in the game. Jacob Taylor had two of the team's five hits, including a homerun, while Woolson hit a 3-run homerun for the Golden Eagles. Chris Johnson was charged with the loss and was one of six pitchers used by La Sierra.

The baseball team will be out of action this week, for final exams, before returning to action this coming weekend when the team welcomes Simpson University for a 3-game series, starting with a single game on Friday morning at 10am, followed by a Sunday doubleheader.
